Featured Paper Blog Hop – Chelsea Gardens

Welcome to our Featured Paper Blog Hop! We will be showcasing items from our Chelsea Gardens Paper Pack with various projects created by talented Close to my Heart consultants. If you are visiting from Erika’s blog then you are on the right track, if not please check in to Carol’s blog to start from the beginning! Don’t forget to check out Brittany’s blog next.

Here’s a very easy card to let someone know they’re in your thoughts. It’s actually a take on the middle card below. These three cards are the extra projects from the Scrapbooking Workshops Your Way. I love that you can work on scrapbook pages and get a coupe of cards made in no time!

To be honest, I can’t take a whole lot of credit for the adaptation either! CTMH always hosts amazing events for consultants, and this card was one of the make & take activities for our Seasonal Expressions launch in December. I made just a few additional changes to get to this —->

This card uses a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 piece of the watercolor paper from the Chelsea Gardens paper packet, a 4 1/4″ zip strip and a 2 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of White Daisy cardstock, dovetailed on the bottom.

I started by stamping the dovetailed cardstock with the butterfly and sentiment from the Chelsea Gardens Cardmaking Stamp Set.  For this card I stamped the butterfly in Black and the ‘thinking of you’ in Glacier. After stamping the butterfly, I colored it in with Watercolor pencils. Rather than using a waterbrush to bring out the watercolors, I used a clear Shimmer Brush – it added the best sparkle! I really think this is my favorite use of the Shimmer Brush yet!

After my butterfly had time to dry, I adhered a piece of the Cream Ribbon to the top of the dovetailed piece. I did this prior to placing the dovetailed piece on the card so I could secure the ends behind/under the cardstock and prevent fraying.

Rather than placing the zip strip all the way to the top, I lowered it about 1/4″. Then I glued the dovetailed piece directly below the zip strip. I topped it off with a cute bow/knot on the ribbon and some of the grey gems from the Chelsea Gardens Dots & Gems.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.  If you don’t already have a Close To My Heart consultant, feel free to stop by my site for more great products – gerri.closetomyheart.com! Before you leave – don’t forget to check out what Brittany has for you, and the rest of the hop!

December Special

So I mentioned earlier that the November Stamp of the Month will be used for the Through The Year Calendar Kit available as the December Monthly Special. In order for you to see what this special is and help you make an informed decision about whether or not you want to get the November Stamp of the Month at the reduced price – here are some pictures of the completed calendar –

With the calendar kit, you get the calendar base, a package of complements, all the papers and a printed guide to create this fun calendar. It even includes perforated gold glitter paper pieces like these stars.

Using the November SOTM, you can stamp the Month plus symbols to represent each month –

You can also use the images such as the birthday cake, Christmas tree, and heart to stamp on special dates (I haven’t done that yet on my pictures).

The calendar kit will not be available for you (as a customer) to order until 1 December. However, if you would like to attend my 9 December Class and work on this project, I can order your kit for you and have it ready (I’ll even pre-cut all the papers if you’d like)! Please RSVP by 27 November so I can have it in time for the 9 December class.

The calendar kit without the stamp is only $38.95. If you would like to get the November SOTM for just $5 – just place an order for $50.  If you RSVP for the December class by November 27th, the price of the kit counts towards the $50 – you can add the Jennifer’s Hand stamp set ($9.95), adhesive, 3D Thin Foam Tape, or a Heather stamp pad to get you to that magic number – these are all things you’ll use in making this calendar.

Don’t worry – if you don’t get the November Stamp of the Month this month -you can still order the kit in December with the stamp set included – you will just pay the full retail for the stamp set. The kit with the stamp set will be $56.90.

I wasn’t able to participate in the Featured Paper Blog Hop this month – but be sure to check out all the fun my extremely talented fellow consultants are showing off this month. Start off at Crafting with Carol and enjoy! I can’t wait to see what they’ve done with the Silver & Gold creative collection!

Christmas Layouts

Good morning! I hope you’re having a fantastic week. I thought I’d head back into the Christmas fun today with some layouts from the Beary Christmas Scrapbook Workshops Your Way.

As always, the Scrapbook Workshops Your Way include everything you need to create 3 double paged layouts – plus you’ll have plenty of left overs for cards or additional pages. One of the great things about these kits is the flexibility. You can use the guide with the layouts as designed, make changes to fit your pictures or style, or go completely into your own direction. I’ve had a lot going on lately – so I’ve stuck with the pre-designed guide – this is a lot easier on my brain.

This layout was originally designed with 4×6 portrait photos. Since I like to include more pictures on my layouts, I swapped out three of the 4x6s for 3×4 landscape photos. I just love that first picture of the ornaments – this was my son’s first time helping to decorate the tree – and this was how he put them on the tree.

This layout is just like the design – but if you don’t want those poinsettias – this is an easy paper to flip and you’ll have bears & trees on the border. Both options look great!

Sorry I don’t have a picture of the second option – but here’s a picture of the paper. See how easy it is to just flip the paper to the other side – I love when I can make a design change without taxing my brain too much.

IMG_4895I know I just said I like to put more pictures on my pages – and here’s this layout with just 4 – BUT if you keep scrolling, you can see that this layout is great for adding Pocket Plus Memory Protectors.

For this layout I used Design 3 for the 3×4 photos and Design 1 for the 4×6 photos. This is a great place to use the cut apart pocket cards that come with each paper packet.

Well – there you go – another Christmas in the books – this one is from 2004 – but at least it made it to the books!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy!

Through the Year

Hello & Happy Thursday! I can’t believe that here in the US, we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving in just two short weeks! Holy crow – guess I need to get a turkey (lol – my brain didn’t make that connection until just now!). Today I’d like to share with you the November Stamp of the Month – Through the Year.

This stamp set is perfect for some Year in Review layouts (I don’t think I would be able to get a full year in review on just 2 double paged 12 x 12s!) I love what CTMH has done with this —>

Here’s a (partial) year in review layout –

You can use this set on your desk calendar to add birthday and other fun reminders.  I think these next pictures show my favorite use for this stamp set – AND it gives you a sneak peak of the December monthly special!

This calendar set will be available next month. Since it uses the November Stamp of the Month – the kit will be available with or without the stamp set. However, next month the stamp set will be at full retail ($17.95) instead of the Stamp of the Month discount (just $5 with a $50 purchase).

You can find all the products used in these pictures on my website – gerri.closetomyheart.com – you won’t find the calendar kit until 1 December – but there’s lots more fun to be found over there!

Merriest Wishes Workshops Your Way!

Good evening! It’s a chilly rainy day here in Utah, so I thought I’d start this month’s blog posts off with some cheery Christmas cards. These cards feature the Beary Christmas papers found in the Merriest Wishes Cardmaking Workshops Your Way. This kit comes with everything shown below including an exclusive B-sized stamp set!

The first option uses the provided cutting guide and you can create 6 each of 2 designs like these:

For these cards, we use Sweetleaf, Fern and New England Ivy to stamp the trees on the first card. The stars are stamped in Cranberry. The second card uses Fern along with the black Merriest Wishes sentiment.  These cards also use the Thin Cuts – Basic Circles.

I decided to play with this a bit to see if I could get some designs that created more cards. I came up with these 2 designs which I can get 12 of each card. I have to add 1 sheet of Cranberry cardstock for cutting the poinsettias and 2 sheets of Fern cardstock for the bakcground on the 2nd card.

The first card use Sweetleaf and Fern to stamp the tree, Cranberry for Merriest Wishes, and Glacier for the stars. The Happiest Holidays is stamped in New England Ivy with Cranberry stars. Both are embellished with Bitty Sparkles. I cut the poinsettia using the 3D poinsettia #MFAE0B7 from the Flower Market Cricut cartridge – I simply un-grouped the images, and deleted all but the green leaves and the 5 petaled flower – I cut one using the regular Cranberry and the second using the lighter side of Cranberry. Looking at it, you could probably just cut them all from the same side because there isn’t really a big difference.

Enjoy & Happy Christmas Crafting!!

Waiting on the Lord

I’m in an unexpected season of life. If you’ve read previous posts, you know that I left a civil service job in January 2017. This was a very releasing move – my job was quite negative and while I loved the people I worked with, I didn’t feel that I was helping anyone. This decision was preceded by a lot of prayer. I felt that I was led to leave my job, but didn’t want my desires to leave to overshadow what I should really be doing – so I prayed more… and more… and more. Even after my last day of work, things happened that reinforced my decision to leave – so I prayed more (in thanksgiving!).

I had some business ideas to make up the difference in my income. Unfortunately, here I am 10 months later and those ideas didn’t come to fruition. So I’ve started questioning my decision. After talking to a couple of friends and my Pastor, I still feel I made the right decision in leaving that job, but I’m confused about what I should be doing now. I’ve applied for jobs, but have only gotten one interview – I’m intelligent, friendly, but as an auditor, I didn’t specialize in anything – I worked in a lot of different areas (that’s one of the few things I enjoyed about the job – it was always something new!)

My Pastor suggested, that maybe this is a time of waiting. WHAT?? A time to wait & rest for the next thing that God has planned for me. WHAT?? Yes, we’ve all had to wait for things (the arrival of a child, an appointment, etc.) – but I’ve never had to wait to find out what I’m supposed to do with my life?! I don’t know HOW to wait! I’m a doer – I make a plan – and I do… something. How do I just sit and wait? How does that help me find the job that I know God has for me?

I spent the next couple of days a bit confused. That one interview I had been called for was the very next day. It was a job where I’d be helping people with shopping (Home Depot Call Center), there was room to advance to a management position, the people seemed very nice – it sounded promising. But then I saw the schedule – and actually started crying – right there in front of the manager who was offering me a job (talk about embarrassing!). I would miss Thanksgiving with my family. I would miss weekends with my family. I just couldn’t do it (at least not before talking to them).

That night I turned to Google. How do you wait on the Lord? I found an article at GotQuestions.org that I found quite helpful. What I found was that waiting on the Lord involves a confident expectation and hope that God will not leave us hanging. He will provide the way – I just have to … you guessed it … wait for His perfect timing. I definitely had that expectation – but my confidence was a little shaken. I still had my hope in Him.

This article referenced the Psalm 23 – did you know that sheep don’t like to rest near rushing water. When He leads me by still waters – it is to bring me rest. Even though my life is a bit turbulent right now, I know that I can find rest in Him. He is my still waters. Another verse I came across in my search was Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (NIV). This is the one that really spoke to me. I decided to create something to remind me of these verses.

Wait on the Lord tagged

This picture (from a summer backpacking trip in the Uintas) can be representative of life (at least mine, right now). There’s a mountain I need to climb – but it’s in the background – waiting for the Lord’s plan. In the foreground is the still water where He’s leading me to rest (before tackling the mountain, perhaps). It reminds me to wait for Him – maybe He’s creating a different path over that mountain than what I expected.

In the mean time, there are things I can do – self care, family care, and enjoying life – even with the struggles and detours, because I DO have that confident expectation that God WILL guide my steps – ‘Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”’ Isaiah 30:21 (NIV).

Thanks for letting me ramble a bit today!
