December Special

So I mentioned earlier that the November Stamp of the Month will be used for the Through The Year Calendar Kit available as the December Monthly Special. In order for you to see what this special is and help you make an informed decision about whether or not you want to get the November Stamp of the Month at the reduced price – here are some pictures of the completed calendar –

IMG_4921

With the calendar kit, you get the calendar base, a package of complements, all the papers and a printed guide to create this fun calendar. It even includes perforated gold glitter paper pieces like these stars.

IMG_4935

Using the November SOTM, you can stamp the Month plus symbols to represent each month –

17fd0a0b-5777-49ff-a267-b3609ae76b03

You can also use the images such as the birthday cake, Christmas tree, and heart to stamp on special dates (I haven’t done that yet on my pictures).

The calendar kit will not be available for you (as a customer) to order until 1 December. However, if you would like to attend my 9 December Class and work on this project, I can order your kit for you and have it ready (I’ll even pre-cut all the papers if you’d like)! Please RSVP by 27 November so I can have it in time for the 9 December class.

The calendar kit without the stamp is only $38.95. If you would like to get the November SOTM for just $5 – just place an order for $50.  If you RSVP for the December class by November 27th, the price of the kit counts towards the $50 – you can add the Jennifer’s Hand stamp set ($9.95), adhesive, 3D Thin Foam Tape, or a Heather stamp pad to get you to that magic number – these are all things you’ll use in making this calendar.

Don’t worry – if you don’t get the November Stamp of the Month this month -you can still order the kit in December with the stamp set included – you will just pay the full retail for the stamp set. The kit with the stamp set will be $56.90.

From the Heart Card Kit

1709-cc-fb-cardkit

Have you seen the beautiful card kit CTMH created for National Stamping Month?! It is absolutely beautiful!!

2f012b73-eb17-421a-89b9-9bba3a9f7482

This fabulous From the Heart Cut Above card kit comes with all the pieces you need to make 12 interactive cards with a foil frame and hidden sentiments! All you need to add is ink pads and your personal touch.

IMG_4105

This is the first card I made – I love how these colors come together. Just to clarify – I did not just break out the stamp sets and start creating – I started off by practicing with different color combinations –  Blossom, Pixie & Pomegranate, Thistle and Pansy for the flowers. Fern and New England Ivy for the leaves. I tried Flaxen for the leaves, but it didn’t work with the other colors.

The From the Heart kit comes with this beautiful E-sized stamp set which lets you layer different pieces and colors to create these beautiful flower bouquets. It includes frequently used sentiments – Happy Birthday, Thinking of You, Thank You & Congrats.

ad36652d-047d-425b-ab93-388923554b6f

The larger stamps are a great addition to the smaller sentiments or some can even stand on their own (You’re in my heart, I’m so happy for you, sending special thoughts & wishes)..

Not so stampy – you say??  No worries – this stamp set is still a gem!

IMG_4168

This is just a simple 3×3 card I made with a single flower. This stamp set is so versatile! Still too much? Keep looking…

131FE3B4-24F1-4C64-9A0B-1B7EF9324A9D

This one uses the larger sentiment stamped in black. I then colored in just the flower with water color pencils. You could use regular colored pencils or just leave the black and white image. For the inside – I stamped the Happy Birthday, two parts of the stem in New England Ivy, the leaves in Fern, then the triple flower and the single flower each with Thistle. Much more simple – but still just as beautiful.

And here’s one more…

AECC4B16-A3BF-4D45-8DBA-0FBAEB034408

For this one I stamped the flowers on the upper piece, then water colored the flower on the inside. I copied one of the cards on the packaging for the kit (see, you don’t even have to come up with your own ideas!)

In case you’re worried about mistakes – here are a few tips – I’m going to try to do a Facebook video to show some ideas, also.

  1. Practice stamping before making your cards.
  2. Create a ‘cheat sheet’ that shows different color combinations so you don’t have to guess.
  3. When you separate the card pieces from the background paper, there is enough paper left over to create another top piece or use this paper for practice stamping.
  4. There are step by step instructions on the Close To My Heart Blog
  5. Make a mistake? No problem – that’s what embellishments are for!
    1. See the Pixie cardstock on the first card I made? Yep – that’s covering up a water spot where I sat the card on a baby wipe.
    2. The twine & bow as well as the Bitty Sparkles on the last picture – – ink spots!

This set is available only during September to celebrate National Stamping Month (or while supplies last). You can purchase the card bases and envelopes for $13.95 or the E-sized stamp set for $29.95 (these are full retail prices). OR You can get the whole kit for just $34.95 (that’s like buying the stamp set & getting the card pieces for just $5!).

You might want to pick up some extra card bases – I’ve seen these cards used with so many more options than just this stamp set – Halloween – Family Christmas picture – so many options.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these fun cards. Watch my Facebook page for info about a workshop (I’m still ironing out the schedule) probably in October.

Enjoy!

Getting Started – Pictures on Pages

Last month I did a couple of posts about getting started & organizing your pictures.  This month I’d like to move on to getting pictures on pages. First – we all have to realize that there are many different ways to do this – the three basic paths are:

  • Traditional scrapbooking – gluing paper & pictures to pages & adding the story.

img_1814

  • Pocket scrapbooking – sliding pictures and pre-printed cards into divided page protectors

1701-se-dreamin-big-pocket-pages

  • Digital scrapbooking – using an electronic format to design layouts & then either printing a photo book or printing individual pages to add to a scrapbook.

Today I’m going to focus on traditional scrapbooking.  Within this arena you have a variety of page sizes – from make your own mini-albums (I just did one that was 3 x 4) up to 12 x 12 (I know Creative Memories used to have something like an 11 X 15, but don’t know what other larger sizes are available.) Don’t feel confined to a single size – you can intermingle smaller sized layouts within a larger album (add 8 1/2 x 11 to a 12 x 12 album).

Something to consider on the size is how many pictures you want to scrapbook.  If you have a lot of pictures, or if you like a lot of pictures on a layout – you might want to go with a larger format. One thought on the number of pictures, though – you don’t have to scrap every picture – (I constantly struggle with this!).

Another area to consider is the content of your scrapbooks/layouts. Do you want to focus more on telling a story or capture an event. Many of us start out as event-driven scrappers (a wedding, birth) and migrate to the stories.  I’m a firm believer that all your layouts should have some story – if not, you might as well juts hang it on a wall (and that’s not a bad option either). My thoughts are that scrapbooking is a way to capture what’s going on in life so that in years to come my family can look back over the pages & share those memories.  So if I don’t really identify what’s going on, I may not have much to share later if I can’t remember the details.

So, if you’re scrapping an event,

    • Choose your pictures from that event (an easy task if you have them organized – if not, check out these other posts Where to Start? – Digital Photo Management – Where to Start (Part 2) – Piles of Pics).
    • Find coordinating papers –
      • Colors that match the pictures or the event (match wedding colors)
      • Themed papers that match the event (birthday, Halloween)
      • Patterned papers that match the event (florals for a wedding, animals for a zoo trip)
    • Find a layout – you can design your own, but I find scraplifting is helpful – especially if you’re just starting out. Look for layouts with the same amount of pictures, similar theme, or the colors you want to use. There are so many great resources for this – Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, sketch/recipe books, catalogs (CTMH Idea Books)

As a Close To My Heart consultant, of course, I regularly turn to CTMH product.  I love that each featured paper packet has a Scrapbook Workshops Your Way kit that includes paper, embellishments & and a cutting guide that is easy to use or adapt to my own needs. Everything coordinates leaving me less to think about, decide on, spend time on.

    dreamin-big-scrap-wyw

Another new CTMH product is the Cut Above Layout Kit.  Talk about a great way to get started.  There are currently 2 kits – one for a new baby,

and one for a wedding/love theme.

    1701-se-cut-above-forever-and-always-layout

These kits include pre-printed die cuts and base pages. All you need to do is punch out the pieces (they’re perforated sheets) and adhere them to the base pages.  There are also pocket cards to add to your traditional layout (I know, this wasn’t today’s topic, but they’re there & they do mix wonderfully with traditional!)

    1701-se-cut-above-little-one-pml1701-se-cut-above-forever-pml

During April 2017 – you can get either of these Cut Above layout kits for half price!! – That’s just $7.48 each!  What an amazing deal – check it out at gerri.closetomyheart.com.  AND – watch for more Cut Above layouts in May!

    Enjoy!

    #CreateKindness

Create – to cause to come into being

Kind(ness)of a good or benevolent nature or disposition

I don’t know about you, but one of my goals with crafting is to bring joy to others.  This month’s CTMH Constant Campaign rolls right into that goal with the #CreateKindness cardmaking kit.  This kit comes with everything you need to make cute 3X3 cards to  #createkindess in your world.

    img_0226

With 4 colored card bases, 8 different M-sized stamp sets, 1.75 inch precut circles (for stamping), a 2X2 acrylic block and a special sized Archival Black ink – you’ll be set to say hello to a friend, send some encouragement, or just let someone know you love them.

If you want to bump things up a bit – add some cardstock or a punched or die-cut flower –

The card on the right was colored with colored pencils.  The one on the left with ShinHan Touch alcohol markers & watercolors – since the set comes with Archival Black ink – you can play with adding color without worrying about blurred lines.

This next card was made with a few Thin Cuts, an embossing folder & an embossing/diecutting machine (I use a Cuttlebug).

    img_0223

    Here’s another quick & easy upgrade – use a 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 in card base, and some coordinating cardstock (I used Pansy) – for a Card-in-a Card – (his idea was from Gail Gross –greetingsfromgail.blogspot.com)

    img_0230

Worried about those bits & pieces not staying organized – don’t worry – this kit comes with a small organizer that holds everything nicely!

    img_0227

Since this is a Constant Campaign, the #CreateKindness card kit is only available through 30 September 2016 – or while supplies last.  The card kit is $46.95 (a 15% savings) or you can purchase this pieces individually at regular price.  I made sure I’ve purchased extra card bases because these are such cute & easy cards to make – I don’t want to run out!

If you’re looking for more great ideas for these cards and stamps – just Google #CreateKindness & see how other consultants and crafters are creating kindness.  I’ve seen amazing cards & scrapbook layouts.

How can you share some kindness?  A card for your neighbor?  A lunchbox note for your hubby or kids?  Post pictures of what you do with the #CreateKindness card kit – I’ll draw a winner from anyone who submits a picture here or on my FB page.

    ~Enjoy!
