Featured Paper Blog Hop

Welcome to our Featured Paper Blog Hop! We will be showcasing items from our Falling For You or Cats & Bats Paper Pack with various projects created by talented Close to my Heart consultants. If you are visiting from Haley’s blog then you are on the right track, if not you can start at the beginning with our hostess Carol. Don’t forget to check out Kathleen’s  blog for more fun.

Last year I fell in love with the Birthday Sparkles (B1537) and All the Thanks (B1536) stamp sets because they were interchangeable.  I could create one card and switch it up between Happy Birthday or Thank You! This year, CTMH has added to these little gems with Sending Prayers (B1563)

B1563 Sending Prayers

While looking at the Annual Inspirations I found a card made with this stamp set and some of the Fundamentals lines. I decided to use this basic design for a card with the Cats & Bats papers.

I really liked the dark and light Emerald polka dot paper, as well as the geometric lines on white. So, I paired these with one of the black patterned papers and two octagons cut on the Cricut (Emerald is 2.5″ and the White Daisy is 2 .25″) – these can be found in the basic shapes.

I offset the two octagons for a little visual variety, then finished it off with a few of the green Cats & Bats dots (Z4028) and some silver shimmer trim (Z1799)

Thanks for stopping by today! Don’t forget to go see what amazing artwork Kathleen has in store for you!

Enjoy the rest of your hop!

Quick & DONE!

For some reason, I don’t get great pictures of my kids at Halloween. I’m not sure if it’s the time of day or possibly, they’re so excited about candy that they’re moving at hyper-speed and I just get blurs…. The great thing about this is I can use a single Workshop Your Way kit and complete 3 years of Halloween scrapbook layouts! Quick & DONE!

IMG_4154_edited-1

This first layout originally used a 5×7 landscape photo on the left – remember what I said about the lack of good pictures – I had nothing that was worthy of a 5×7 print.

IMG_4156_edited-1

I was originally going to just cut the Emerald mat down to fit the 4×6 photo,  but I forgot! So, I added a few extra layers – they go… photo, Emerald (light side), Black, Emerald (dark side) – this does a great job of showing off our two-toned cardstock!

I have another option with this layout – simply flip the patterned papers and you get this..

IMG_4157_edited-1

I love how easily I can use the same design & even papers, but yet have a different layout for each of my boys.

IMG_4164_edited-1

Here’s another amazingly easy layout. I liked how the orange mat on the 3×4 photos was cut in a 3×3 square – so a portion of the picture hangs off the edge – it just adds a little different look. Also, the tiled words paper is great to cut apart and use as an embellishment.

This last layout is super easy! The ombre coloring of the base sheet adds a lot of dimension and interest without having to add a lot of additional patterned paper. The Halloween sticker and other pieces from the Complements pack really make it easy to embellish.

So there you go – I got 2005, 2006, and 2007 – Done with the Cats & Bats Scrapbook WYW! While I was looking for pictures for these layouts, I also chose pictures for 2008 and 2015 and added those to my Jeepers Creepers layouts from last year. He  he he … I feel like I’ve gotten so much accomplished!

Thanks for checking out my blog. I hope you are having a fantastic week and look forward to seeing you Saturday for the Blog Hop!

Enjoy!

The Cats & Bats creative collection:

Feel So Blessed SOTM

I usually use the Stamp of the Month to create one card in my card class. This isn’t always easy – but this month’s Stamp of the Month is so great I used it twice!

c54cabf6-f841-476f-b18b-76196908e734

This is such a perfect time of year to remember what you’re thankful for (seriously – the kids are back in school!!!) As we’re coming to the close of another year and with Thanksgiving upon us it really is a great opportunity to think about gratitude. But the great thing about gratitude is sharing it!

Whether you’re creating a layout….

Or a mini-album…..

DIY Embellishments

17-he-cb-wyw-cards

I wanted to make a card using one of the Cats & Bats Scrapbook WYW card projects. I decided on the first card on the left in the picture. The workshop guide shows it as a Halloween card. My kids are teens and so I don’t have any use for Halloween cards, so I decided to turn it into a birthday card.

We have lots of fun paper choices from the Cats & Bats paper packet. This card uses the black and white diagonal (5 1/4 x 4), a piece of zip strip (5 1/2), Black cardstock (1/2 x 4 1/4 – dovetailed on one end), Emerald cardstock (3 x 3 3/4), and Pebble cardstock (3 x 3 1/2 – light side).

I decided to swap out the emerald cardstock for Raspberry (It seemd more party-ish) and used some of the black B&T duos paper for the dovetailed piece instead of the cardstock. I also used White Daisy for the stamping instead of Pebble.

I used the Birthday Sparkles and Sweet Birthday stamp sets with Pansy and Raspberry ink. Then I stamped the sparkles in Emerald and Willow along the bottom. After adding the party hats on the right, I felt it still needed a little something on the top left.

The embellishments that coordinate with this paper use Black, Emerald, and Goldrush and I didn’t have any Raspberry or Thistle colored embellishments. So I decided to work up a little DIY magic. I wasn’t having much luck getting a good picture of these that showed the nice shiny finish, but here’s what I did.

  • First I punched some holes in the Raspberry cardstock using 2 different sized hole punches (nothing fancy, just the kind you find in office supply stores).
  • Then I covered each dot with Liquid Glass and allowed them to dry. It dries to a nice shiny finish.
  • I could have continued to build them up a bit like enamel dots, but just didn’t take the time.

Liquid Glass is a great adhesive for 3 dimensional paper art, for attaching ribbon and for creating Base & Bling jewelry (these retired in July). It does take a little time to dry and if you use too much it squishes out all over – uh hmm – or so I’ve been told! 😉 But I definitely like to use if when straight adhesive just isn’t strong enough or doesn’t work around dimensional pieces.

This is one of the cards that you can create in my Cats & Bats class this month. If you can’t make it or you’re not local – email me to find out how to get a ready to assemble kit so you can still play!

Enjoy!

Spooky Fun!

Whether you’re ready or not, fall is on its way! September 1st brings the launch of the new Holiday Expressions Idea Book. Where our Annual Inspirations covers all the basics – albums & supplies, cardstock & inks in our 4 exclusive color palettes, year round stamp sets… The Holiday Expressions covers the fall holidays with themed papers and coordinating stamps & embellishments as well as other holiday themed products.

For September, we’ll be playing with the Halloween collection called Cats & Bats. It features fun oragami animal shapes (cats, bats, foxes & owls), geometric patterns, polka dots, diagonals & ombre.

The coordinating complements include lots black glittery pieces, and goldrush, black and Emerald dots.

Here are some pictures of the cards and layouts I made with this fun collection –

IMG_4137_edited-1

I don’t personally send Halloween cards, so I decided to put these papers  to work in other  ways.  The bright colors are great for birthdays, thank yous & pick me up cards.  Plus you can use the less vibrant patterns & colors for your more serious card needs.

I don’t have a ton of Halloween pictures, so I was  able to use this kit to document 3 different Halloweens. My oldest son is wearing the same costume in 2 layouts because he wanted to be John Glenn both years – he still does this – he was ‘Steve the guy from Minecraft’ for the past 2 years – we’ll see if he’ll shoot for 3.

Be  sure to check out all the new fun starting on Friday. You can get your own copy of the Holiday Expressions absolutely free by placing an order either directly through me or at gerri.closetomyheart.com.

Don’t forget to jump over to my Class Page to get the details on class schedules for September.

Enjoy!
