Back To School Layout

Jeepers Creepers isn’t just for Halloween!  Here’s a cute back to school layout we’ll be making in the scrapbook class this month…

I combined the Jeepers Creepers paper with Pacifica and White Daisy cardstocks (and some scraps of Poppy for the apples).  Then used Emerald, Pacifica, and Ruby inks along with the School Kids and Let’s Go My Acrylix stamp sets.  I also used the Typography and Pen Pals alphas stamp sets.

I must need new glasses – I really thought this was more in focus when I took the picture!

With the basic, clean lines, this layout comes together quickly.  Sadly – it’s quicker than my photography skills because I’ve only got pictures of 1 son scowling because he had to start school and the other son has a streak of sunlight across his face.  Hopefully I can get them to cooperate and ‘recreate’ back to school pictures – then I’ll be set!

National Stamping Month

Did you know September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day? (Arggh)

And… September 24th is Punctuation Day;…

How about National Stamping Month? – it’s all September long!!  In honor of National Stamping Month, Close to My Heart has not just one, but THREE exclusive stamp sets.  So – whether you’re a Cardmaker, Traditional Scrapbooker or Pocket Scrapbooker – or some hybrid in between  – we’ve got a stamp set for you!  The Hello, Life! Stamp sets can be purchased individually, or combine all three for even more crafty options and savings!g

1509-cc-nsm-hello-life-02Cardmaker?  – this set is great for sending birthday wishes, thank yous, or just saying Hello!  The set includes both sentiments and images for sending love & well wishes.

Scrapbooker? – show how happy life is with these fun titles and images on your layouts no matter what size scrapbooks you create.

Pocket Scrapbooker? – these stamps are just the right size for pockets & cute mini albums –1509-cc-nsm-hello-life-01 pair these with the Picture My Life card sets for even more options!

Don’t feel pigeon-holed – you don’t have to choose!  Are you a PocketCardScrapper?  That’s great!  Although these sets were designed for a niche, they all cross over!  As a matter of fact, the card I made only used one little stamp from the Cardmaking set – the majority of the images came from the Pocket Scrapbooking set (and I’m not even a Pocket Scrapbooker (gasp!).  *this card was inspired by Jessica Kaiser.

And … to add even more versatility, all three of these sets coordinate with the Artistry Cricut Cartridge.  Cut out the shapes with your Cricut – use some 3D foam tape and add dimension to any of your artwork.

So remember, National Stamping Month ends September 30th (eww – that’s also fiscal year end for some) – so get yours before they’re gone.  Individual sets are $11.95 – Scrapbooking (CC1040), Cardmaking (CC1041),  Pocket Scrapbooking (CC1042) –  but you can get all three for just $34.95.  Jump on over to my site or give me a call (801-920-4681).

Nevermore…. Happy Halloween & Beyond

It’s September and Fall is just around the corner!  Halloween has always been a fun time, but it seems in recent years it has really gone crazy with decorating & food & big inflatable thingies.  I suppose scrapbooking is no different.  This month, Close to My Heart is featuring the NevermoreNevermore paper pack.  The color palette for these fun papers includes Sunset, Eggplant, Slate, Whisper, Pear, and black.  The coordinating Assortment and Complements include spooky Halloween icons like witches, bats, cats, jack-o-lanterns, stars, spiders & webs, even a few frightening chandeliers.  Both the Green and Black Shimmer Trim go great with these.

So, what to make with Halloween on the brain?

Nevermore CardsSome fun little cards* – how about a pop up box card featuring the Complements package.

And of course, my favorite – scrapbook pages.

steampunk scoundrelsFor these projects, I used the Steampunk Scoundrels, Tasty Terrors, and Pumpkin Chevron My Acrylix Stamp sets.  I wasn’t sure about the whole Steampunk look – but I’m loving these 4 stamps in the Steampunk Scoundrels set.  The spider & bat are great with their gears, knobs & pieces – kind of reminds me of something from Dr. Who.

If any of these products interest you, be sure to check out my web site – for more details.  But hurry – these items won’t be gone with the Witching Hour, but they are part of our Holiday Expressions Idea Book and will be gone 31 December.  If you’d like more information on the projects, check out my Class Schedule page.

Products use – Nevemore Paper Packet (X7198B), Nevermore Complements (X7198C), Nevermore Assortment (Z3083), Black Shimmer Trim (Z1809), Sequins Silver Assortment (Z2013), Thin 3-D Foam Tape (Z2060), Steampunk Scoundrels (B1503), Tasty Terrors (D1669), Pumpkin Chevron (B1488), and Typography Alphabet Stamp (E1032) My Acrylix Stamp sets.

Zoe Fun!

I always thought of Zoe as a fun name – cheerful, carefree, lighthearted – and that’s exactly how I feel about the new Zoe My Reflections Paper Pack from Close to My Heart.  The colors are light and remind me of playing outside on a slightly breezy day (not a crazy, blow you over wind – just enough to stir the scent of flowers on the breeze).  And – I had just as much fun playing with this paper to create the cards for my classes and recreate the awesome artwork of Susan Williams for my scrapbook class.  Zoe Paper

The Zoe Paper Pack has a color pallet featuring Canary, Glacier, Slate, Sorbet, Sweet Leaf, Whisper and White Daisy.   The Zoe Complements have some fun stickers that remind me of togetherness, having the best day & summer.  What I really like about this set is that it will work well for birthdays, babies, summer, spring – so many fun ways to use this paper.

1508 SOTMFor the cards, I paired up the Zoe papers with the August Stamp of the Month – Framed.  This SOTM is awesome for cards, tags or anything you want to set off with a little decorative frame.  You can also use the Cricut Artistry Cartridge to precut the frames to add some dimension to your artwork.  Place a $50 order by 31 August, and get the Stamp of the Month for just $5 (a $17.95 value)!

Order the Zoe Paper pack and one other item needed for the cards to receive a copy of the cutting instructions by email (be sure to email me after you’ve placed your order at  See below for a list of supplies.  IMG_1366

I like to keep my artwork fairly simple because I don’t have a lot of time and I tend to like clean, simple lines.  I have seen some gorgeous artwork with lots of layers and intricate detail, but I just don’t have the patience to recreate it or to try to think in that way to create my own version.  So what you find here won’t be hard to put together quickly or to easily recreate.  I’m sure some people might consider it pretty rudimentary – but my blog name is Simple Moments – (not to be confused with Simple Minded)

The scrapbook artwork is from Susan Williams – she has graciously allowed consultants to use and share her artwork for this paper pack.  Below is a picture of 1 of 4 double paged 12″ x 12″ layouts you can create.  If you purchase the scrapbook kit (see below) from my online site (, and contact me at, I will email these instructions to you.IMG_1658
