Say Hello to Prickly Pear…

Good morning! As June is coming to a close, I am attending the CTMH Convention finding out about all the great new products coming your way soon. But we still have some fantastic featured papers from the Seasonal Expressions II Idea Book. July’s featured paper is Prickly Pear.

Paper Pack

Small confession here … when I first saw this paper, I wasn’t shall we say thrilled.  I grew up around big tress (hemlocks, maples & real oaks) – so cacti just weren’t doing anything for me. BUT – once I started playing with these papers – the beautiful colors and versatile patterns totally won me over.

Designs for these cards came from Make It From Your Heart Volumes I & II, Wishes Card Confidence Program, Prickly Pear WYW Scrapbooking guide and Pinterest (cleanandsimplestamping.blogspot)

Here are my layouts using the Scrapbooking WYW. I mostly followed the guide except for the ‘Big Shoes’ layout.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this quick look at my cards & layouts for July classes. You can find details for the classes on my Class Page or at Facebook.

As always…

Enjoy!

More Than Layouts

I talk a lot about Workshops Your Way – especially the scrapbook kits.  I really like these kits because they have everything you need to get layouts done quickly.

The part I often overlook in the Scrapbook Workshops Your Way are the additional cards included in the cutting diagram.

If you look in this picture  – you can identify the card cuts in 2 ways. First – the layouts are all numbered 1-3, so any cut numbered above 3 is for a card.  Second, the card cuts are a darker shade. So, if you don’t want to make the cards – just skip those cuts.

These three cards in the picture above,  feature the card making stamp set that coordinates with the paper packet.  Sometimes, though I don’t want to buy something else.  In these instances, I try to find a stamp set in my stash that will work.

You can see how with just a few tweaks, I was able to use the same card patterns, but adapt them for the birthday cards that I wanted. I used the April SOTM Flock Together (S1704) and Hi Friend (A1198) for the first card, and Circus Birthday (B1533) for the last two.  The ‘Happy Birthday’ on the middle card is from the Hooked On You (B1535) set (I’ve found this set very versatile!).

Since these were for my card class, I only made one of each, but when you follow the WYW cutting guide, you will have the pieces for multiples which helps you make better use of your time.

There you go – the Scrapbook Workshops Your Way are a great value for both your money and your time.  Create the optional card projects and you’ve got an even better deal.

Enjoy!

 Layout —> Card

While I really liked the bright colors in this paper packet, I wasn’t too sure what to do with these eyes.  I generally try to use some of each paper in the paper packet on my card class  – but I just wasn’t feeling this paper. Whenever I’m stuck – I generally look through the Idea Book or on Facebook Consultant Groups – I can usually find great inspiration for the papers I’m working with.SKW Paper 4

After looking through the Seasonal Expressions, I saw a cute layout that had these pink eyeballs. Isn’t this just the cutest (these are the times when I wish I had a girl!!!!)! So, I decide to scrap lift this layout into a card.

It turned out quite cute using the Safari Ballet stamp set (that little hippo ballerina is so darling – but not near as adorable as the little girl in the layout!

I started with a 5 1/2″ piece of the black zip strip (with circles) then a 2 x 5 1/2″ piece of the eyes, followed by a 1/4 x 5 1/2″ piece of the slate.  On top of this, I layered the raspberry, black speckles and finally the white daisy for stamping.

I’m not one to fuss with water colors – so I decided just to add some color in a few key areas rather than coloring the hippo all grey.  Like I said – I don’t like to fuss – so I grabbed a water brush and my Raspberry ink stamp pad. This is the perfect combination when you’re just adding a bit of color and don’t want to fuss with water colors.  Did I say I don’t like to fuss!

I finished her off with my Shimmer Brush.  This is another great tool for adding just a hint of something extra. (you can probably actually see it a little better in the first picture).

So there you go – a Happy Hippo Ballerina scraplifted from a layout.

Enjoy!

Scraplifted Birthday Card

Today’s card is one I scraplifted from the current CTMH Seasonal Expressions Catalog (page 57).  The original card used Sugar Rush and the January SOTM (Adore You).

But I decided to use the Hello Lovely paper packet (X7216B) along with the One in a Million (A1201) and Here for You* (B1550) stamp sets.

To create this card, I layered the dotted blossom paper (4 X 5 1/4″), with 2 X 4 1/4″ of the grey, 1 X  41/4″ of the floral, 3 1/4 X 4 3/4″ of the linen and one zip strip cut to 4 1/4″.

I stamped the top half of this sentiment in Desert Sand on the linen patterned paper.  Then I stamped the rest of the image on the inside.  The flowers were created by using a 2nd generation stamp of the flower base in Smoothie topped off with the flower shade (the circles) in Sorbet (I borrowed this stamping technique from Jill Thomason, a Sister Consultant (she made a gorgeous swap card!).  Then I used a piece of cardstock to mask the flowers and stamped the leaves using a 2nd generation image in Fern.  Topped off with gold glitter gems for a little sparkle.

So – if today’s your birthday, remember that you are one in a million!!!!

Enjoy!
