Through the Year

Hello & Happy Thursday! I can’t believe that here in the US, we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving in just two short weeks! Holy crow – guess I need to get a turkey (lol – my brain didn’t make that connection until just now!). Today I’d like to share with you the November Stamp of the Month – Through the Year.

This stamp set is perfect for some Year in Review layouts (I don’t think I would be able to get a full year in review on just 2 double paged 12 x 12s!) I love what CTMH has done with this —>

Here’s a (partial) year in review layout –

1711-sotm

You can use this set on your desk calendar to add birthday and other fun reminders.  I think these next pictures show my favorite use for this stamp set – AND it gives you a sneak peak of the December monthly special!

This calendar set will be available next month. Since it uses the November Stamp of the Month – the kit will be available with or without the stamp set. However, next month the stamp set will be at full retail ($17.95) instead of the Stamp of the Month discount (just $5 with a $50 purchase).

You can find all the products used in these pictures on my website – gerri.closetomyheart.com – you won’t find the calendar kit until 1 December – but there’s lots more fun to be found over there!

Enjoy!

 Layout —> Card

While I really liked the bright colors in this paper packet, I wasn’t too sure what to do with these eyes.  I generally try to use some of each paper in the paper packet on my card class  – but I just wasn’t feeling this paper. Whenever I’m stuck – I generally look through the Idea Book or on Facebook Consultant Groups – I can usually find great inspiration for the papers I’m working with.SKW Paper 4

After looking through the Seasonal Expressions, I saw a cute layout that had these pink eyeballs. Isn’t this just the cutest (these are the times when I wish I had a girl!!!!)! So, I decide to scrap lift this layout into a card.

It turned out quite cute using the Safari Ballet stamp set (that little hippo ballerina is so darling – but not near as adorable as the little girl in the layout!

DSC_0072

I started with a 5 1/2″ piece of the black zip strip (with circles) then a 2 x 5 1/2″ piece of the eyes, followed by a 1/4 x 5 1/2″ piece of the slate.  On top of this, I layered the raspberry, black speckles and finally the white daisy for stamping.

I’m not one to fuss with water colors – so I decided just to add some color in a few key areas rather than coloring the hippo all grey.  Like I said – I don’t like to fuss – so I grabbed a water brush and my Raspberry ink stamp pad. This is the perfect combination when you’re just adding a bit of color and don’t want to fuss with water colors.  Did I say I don’t like to fuss!

I finished her off with my Shimmer Brush.  This is another great tool for adding just a hint of something extra. (you can probably actually see it a little better in the first picture).

So there you go – a Happy Hippo Ballerina scraplifted from a layout.

Enjoy!

Friendly Layouts (with Stamping!)

Good morning, friends! Spring break was a little more eclectic than I was planning, so I never made it back with additional posts – but I’m ready to start back up this week.  These layouts are one of the options for my April scrapbooking class.

IMG_1983

I used the Some Kind of Wonderful Workshops Your Way Scrapbooking kit.  This kit includes a paper packet, complements, white twine and a package of black and white dots. Often, I just follow the guide designed for the kit – easy-peasy… but this month, I wanted to add some stamping.

skw-scrap-wyw

Close to My Heart has designed scrapbooking and  cardmaking stamp sets specifically to coordinate with each featured paper packet.  I thought the Some Kinda Wonderful Scrapbooking stamp set would be great for telling the story of my family getting a cat (the cat I was never going to own!!!!).

Between the stamp set and the complements, I had everything i needed to convey the friendship that’s developed between my son & his cat and all the happiness the little kitty brought!

IMG_1984

This layout really didn’t need a lot of colored papers – using the stamps to create a slight background on the White Daisy cardstock, I really only needed a few pieces to frame the pictures.

My next layout just has some pictures of my son when he was 1 1/2 – showing off his fish tank, being cool in his shades and hanging out with his best friend at the time – Mickey.  This time I used some of the green paper for a large photo mat and then added some color above & below.  The stamping on this page just adds a little extra embellishment.IMG_1985

My last double page layout didn’t include any stamping.  These are just some random pictures that remind me what a happy wonderful life we have – i love that smile!

IMG_1987

(I actually went back and added another layered piece on the right hand page – in the top left side – I’ll try to remember to get a picture of it and replace this one!)

If you’ve made layouts with this paper, I’d love to see them – whether you followed the design guide or did your own thing!

Enjoy!

Thanks So Much!

I thought we’d start this month off with a quick thank you card.  I made this one for a swap with my sister consultants back in January.   It uses the Dreamin’ Big paper packet (X7218B) and the exclusive stamp set from the Workshops Your Way Mother’s Day Cardmaking kit (G1122).

img_1854

I started with two 1 X 4 inch strips of the flowered paper, a 3 X 3 square of the Goldrush arrows, and a 3 1/4 X 4″  piece of Crystal Blue cardstock.    I added a little tone-on-tone texture using the droplet stamp and Crystal Blue ink on the blue cardstock.  I just did this randomly around  the edges where it would show from underneath the sentiment.  I also distressed the edges with matching inks (Crystal Blue and Goldrush)

card-wyw-stamp

The sentiment is stamped on a 2 3/4″ square of White Daisy in Goldrush ink.  Below the sentiment is a knot of ribbon from the Rustic Home Ribbon pack (I just tied a knot and left the ends a little long.  I cut them on an angle to give them the look of a bow).  Then underneath the ribbon is a cluster of hearts in Pomegranate.

I layered the White Daisy on the 3 x 3 goldrush piece and then attached these to the card with some Thin 3D tape for added dimension.

You could easily swap out the sentiment on this card with the “Happy Mother’s Day” stamp included in the set or use one of the ‘thank you’ stamps from the “All the Thanks”set (B1536).

I hope you’ve enjoyed this card and are having an amazing weekend!

Enjoy!

Blessed Beyond Measure

Are you ready for another fantastic Stamp of the Month?  This stamp is really getting me in the mood for Fall – it has a pumpkin, maple leaves & phrases of thankfulness, gratitude & blessings.

1609-blessed-beyond-measure

Here’s a card I made with the Jeepers Creepers paper packet (not just for Halloween!).  It also uses the Artbooking Cricut Cartridge for the pumpkin (I cut off the extra leaves & vines at the top of the pumpkin) and leaves.

I also used it to add a saying (replacing journaling) on a Swan Lake layout.

#CreateKindness

Create – to cause to come into being

Kind(ness)of a good or benevolent nature or disposition

I don’t know about you, but one of my goals with crafting is to bring joy to others.  This month’s CTMH Constant Campaign rolls right into that goal with the #CreateKindness cardmaking kit.  This kit comes with everything you need to make cute 3X3 cards to  #createkindess in your world.

img_0226

With 4 colored card bases, 8 different M-sized stamp sets, 1.75 inch precut circles (for stamping), a 2X2 acrylic block and a special sized Archival Black ink – you’ll be set to say hello to a friend, send some encouragement, or just let someone know you love them.

If you want to bump things up a bit – add some cardstock or a punched or die-cut flower –

The card on the right was colored with colored pencils.  The one on the left with ShinHan Touch alcohol markers & watercolors – since the set comes with Archival Black ink – you can play with adding color without worrying about blurred lines.

This next card was made with a few Thin Cuts, an embossing folder & an embossing/diecutting machine (I use a Cuttlebug).

img_0223

Here’s another quick & easy upgrade – use a 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 in card base, and some coordinating cardstock (I used Pansy) – for a Card-in-a Card – (his idea was from Gail Gross –greetingsfromgail.blogspot.com)

img_0230

Worried about those bits & pieces not staying organized – don’t worry – this kit comes with a small organizer that holds everything nicely!

img_0227

Since this is a Constant Campaign, the #CreateKindness card kit is only available through 30 September 2016 – or while supplies last.  The card kit is $46.95 (a 15% savings) or you can purchase this pieces individually at regular price.  I made sure I’ve purchased extra card bases because these are such cute & easy cards to make – I don’t want to run out!

If you’re looking for more great ideas for these cards and stamps – just Google #CreateKindness & see how other consultants and crafters are creating kindness.  I’ve seen amazing cards & scrapbook layouts.

How can you share some kindness?  A card for your neighbor?  A lunchbox note for your hubby or kids?  Post pictures of what you do with the #CreateKindness card kit – I’ll draw a winner from anyone who submits a picture here or on my FB page.

~Enjoy!

Back To School Layout

Jeepers Creepers isn’t just for Halloween!  Here’s a cute back to school layout we’ll be making in the scrapbook class this month…

IMG_0208

I combined the Jeepers Creepers paper with Pacifica and White Daisy cardstocks (and some scraps of Poppy for the apples).  Then used Emerald, Pacifica, and Ruby inks along with the School Kids and Let’s Go My Acrylix stamp sets.  I also used the Typography and Pen Pals alphas stamp sets.

IMG_0209
I must need new glasses – I really thought this was more in focus when I took the picture!

With the basic, clean lines, this layout comes together quickly.  Sadly – it’s quicker than my photography skills because I’ve only got pictures of 1 son scowling because he had to start school and the other son has a streak of sunlight across his face.  Hopefully I can get them to cooperate and ‘recreate’ back to school pictures – then I’ll be set!
