Share A Smile

Did you know that you can team with Close To My Heart to support those in need? CTMH has been a wonderful supporter of Operation Smile since 2008! You can join in on this amazing journey and get some great crafting supplies while you do it. Each year, CTMH creates a special stamp for Operation Smile. This year it is the Punny Pals (D1751) set. For each stamp set purchased, CTMH donates $7 to Operation Smile. During October, we have some additional ways to donate and to play with this stamp set.

The Share A Smile card kit comes with everything you need to create 32 fun 3×3″ cards, plus a set of coordinating Thin Cuts for each of the animals.  You’ll only use about 1/2 of each sheet of paper for the 32 cards, so why not get an extra set of 3×3 card bases/envelopes to make more?

Confession time – I’m a scrap saver – I sometimes struggle to let go of the smallest pieces. I keep thinking, ‘But I might be able to use that’. All those White Daisy scraps paid off with this kit – I used them to cut out all these cute little animals, so I have I still have a full sheet of untouched White Daisy cardstock. Using scraps made it easy to layer papers and cut 2 animals at at time, making things move along faster.

As I was cutting the colored card stock, I just laid everything out by color.

IMG_4811

Since the card stock is two-toned, when I actually started putting the cards together, I made piles according to the color that I wanted to use, in the picture below I start with the lighter side of Glacier blue, then flip the next set over to the darker side. The third pile is the light side of Lagoon, finished off with the dark side (cue Darth Vader music…). I also found it was easier to put the adhesive on the card and attach the pieces rather than put the adhesive on the strips & triangles.

IMG_4809

To add color to my animals, I just used water color pencils and a water brush. I find this so much easier when I’m using multiple colors and coloring small spaces (sorry for the blurry picture).

IMG_4813

I decided to mix it up a bit while making the cards. I left the frog uncolored and the ends of the sentiment squared off for the top right card. For the top left card, I intermingled the colors a bit rather than sticking to the monotones. Then the bottom card I put together following the guide (used the monochrome pattern, colored in the tiger and dovetailed the ends of the sentiment piece). Either way, I think they’re really cute!

FSE Scrap Card

Here’s a card that is great for using up scraps and so simple to create. This pattern came from the Make It From You Heart, Volume 2 pattern bookIMG_3720

I started with 1 1/4 x 5″ strips of 3 different patterned papers. Then I trimmed those strips into    1 1/4″ squares. I rounded two opposite corners on each square, paying attention to any directional patterns, then laid them out with the un-rounded corners of 4 squares pointing toward each

I topped this off with some White Twine and tags cut using the new Thin Cuts – Basic Tags set (love these!)thin cuts tags

Paired with the coordinating stamp set I Made This

B1574 I Made This

I used retired cardstock (Slate and Whisper) on the tags (I’m in that in-between stage where I still reach for my old favorites) and then stamped in Slate and Juniper.

Seriously, the hardest thing about this card was getting the twine through the holes (I think I need stronger ‘wisdom’ glasses!)!

Enjoy!

No Worries with Thin Cuts

Have you tried any of our stamp/thin cuts bundles? These little gems are a great way to add dimension to your paper crafting projects.

This set is the No Worries Cardmaking Stamp Set + Thin Cuts bundle (Z3337) … There’s also a Scrapbooking bundle (Z3336)! Using just a manual die cutting machine (I use a Cuttlebug) – you can cut these images from patterned paper or cardstock.

You might choose to stamp the image on plain cardstock and then place the die over the stamped image. Or stamp on the cut image. Add some extra flair by strategically placing the die cut on patterned paper to show a specific design or image within the cut.  These little pieces of metal are so versatile!

Here are a couple of cards I made for this month’s class –

IMG_2605

This card was provided as a Make & Take project at the Seasonal Expressions II Launch event back in March.  I love the support that the CTMH Home Office provides to consultants in the form of projects and inspiration!

IMG_2604

This card I lifted from the Seasonal Expressions II idea book (page 15) – so easy!

What a fun way to add to your cards or layouts. Don’t want the look of dimensional layering? You can get the stamp sets without Thin Cuts and stamp away!

Enjoy!

I really love the bright colors of the Little Dreamer paper packet, but I wanted to take it beyond the cute unicorns and rainbows. I’ve had the Happy for You stamp set for some time and really like the versatility of it. This stamp set has sentiments for retirements, adoption, new job, new house – along with the normal birthday & wedding.

IMG_2438

I really thought the line balloon images of the stamp set would work great with the patterned papers of Little Dreamer. And what could be better than a cloud filled sky background for those balloons!

IMG_2436

I also used the Little Dreamer Cardmaking Thin Cuts to cut the banners below the balloons.  I love when I can ‘multi-purpose’ something like this Thin Cut die with other stamps!

Last I added some of the Little Dreamer Glitter Gems to finish it off.

Thanks for stopping in!  Be sure to check out Elly’s blog next!

No Stamping Required…

Happy Monday (is there such a thing?!)!  Since the CTMH special this month is 25% off the Thin Cuts – I thought I’d show a card that uses Thin Cuts without stamping (don’t worry – I’ll have Thin Cuts with stamping later).

IMG_1849

This is a great unisex birthday card as it uses the Dreamin’ Big paper packet that is just great all-around paper.  I used a 1 1/2″ strip of the black tone-on-tone diagonal piece on the bottom to ground everything.  For the top, I used a 4 1/4 x 4 1/4″ piece of the multi-colored dot paper.  This paper includes Goldrush, Glacier, Poppy, Sorbet, Juniper, Slate (and probably a few more) – so it really goes with so many things.

Happy Birthday Thin Cut

I used some Goldrush cardstock from the Dreamin’ Big coordinating cardstock pack (X7218D) and the Happy Birthday thin cuts (Z3304).  I layered these pieces with the backside of the dots which is a glacier pattern on white (it kind of looks like little lines instead of dots).

This is all topped off with some Dreamin’ Big sequins and Whisper Thick Twine for embellishments.  This card can be redone with so many different paper combinations – watch for another one on the card buffet during the Free Craft Night on 31 March!

There you go – Happy Birthday without using any stamps.  I love making life easy!

Enjoy!

Woodland Wishes Christmas Cards

Today’s cards use the Woodland Wishes Thin Cuts Bundle (Z4015)  with Oh Deer! (X7214B) paper packet for a couple of quick and easy Christmas cards.woodland-wishes-thin-cuts

I’ve only recently started playing with die cuts from an embossing machine.  Previously I just used  my Cricut.  Since CTMH came out with the Thin Cuts that coordinate with stamp sets – I thought I’d give them a try.  I love my Cricut – but for making just a couple of quick cuts to add to cards – these Thin Cuts are the way to go.  Just sandwich paper between the cutting boards & the die you want to use – roll it through (I use the Cuttlebug) your machine and voila!

img_0616-copy

This first card uses the B&T Duos for the tree – so you don’t even have to stamp it – isn’t it great you can cut the dies on White Daisy and add a stamped image – or use the patterned paper for a different look.  I used a piece of the B&T Duos that has a birch bark pattern as my landscape to give the impression of clouds, snow, whatever – I like that it’s not just plain white.

The deer & star are stamped in Desert Sand, the background in Whisper, the snowflakes in Sea Glass and the ‘Merry and Bright’ in Cranberry.  I added Bitty Sparkles to the snowflakes for some shine.

img_0611-copy

This is a very easy card to make.  With just 3 cuts of B&T Duos (5 1/2 X 4 1/4, 1 3/4 X 4 1/4, and 1 1/4 X 4 1/4).  I distressed the edges of the 2 smaller pieces with Desert Sand ink, stamped the Merry and Christmas using Juniper.  The Christmas banner is lifted slightly with Thin 3D tape and then I added a Clear Sparkle.

I hope you have enjoyed these cards – these are the last of my Christmas cards for this year.  I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!

Enjoy!

Hello Mr. Snowman!

Good morning!  I thought I’d start out this month’s cards with this fun snowman.

img_0527-copy

Cozy Christmas (D1695) is a fun stamp set by itself, but when you add the Thin Cuts (available as a bundle with the stamp set  – Z4008) you can take it so much further – adding dimension with the cut out pieces and foam tape.   All of the images below with the blue outline have a matching Thin Cut, so you can easily mix and match colors and looks for your snowman.

cozy-christmas-thin-cuts-bundle

To get the background for this card, I simply cut the 4 x 6″ Picture My Life card to 4 x 5 1/4″ Then I cut out the pieces of the snowman. I decided to stamp his arms directly to the background but could have just as easily cut those out as well.  I also cut out 2 of the trees.  I used the lighter ink (Willow) for the front tree, and then used  a darker ink (Fern) with the more solid image on the back tree.  I also cut off the star and tree stand.

I decided to use ‘Jingle All the Way’ from the M-sized stamp set – A Little Jingle (M1147) and included a piece from the striped 3 X 4″ PML card to add some color.

If I make this card again – I think I’ll move Mr. Snowman down a bit to ground him a little better.

See some of the other products used – along with Black, Sapphire, Ruby, Lemon, Tangerine, Fern & Willow inks.

Don’t forget the paper packet and stamps used for this card are only available through December 31st (or while supplies last) – get yours at gerri.closetomyheart.com

Enjoy!
